TSG helmets

The helmets we use at the Pedal Project course are made by TSG, a Swiss company that specialise in cycling safety gear.

After a lot of research, we have found them to be the safest helmets around, chiefly because they stay where they are put. User interaction permitting!

Many kids’ helmets – one scooter manufacturer’s in particular – are much more bulky and heavy and fall back on the child’s head, not protecting it.

Another design flaw is to make the main body of the helmet too big for the child’s head and introduce a size adjusting mechanism to make it fit. The adjusting mechanism usually fails to work and often becomes detached from the helmet.

TSG have a slightly costlier method of manufacture that injects the foam directly onto the outer shell, reducing weight significantly without affecting strength. The only size adjustments are thicker spare pad sets.

It may be true that helmets with size adjusters last longer as the child grows, but we think it is more important that the helmet fits well and stays put so it can do its job.

The shape of the TSG helmets are also better than many other brands; they sit lower with better coverage of the back of the head and the temples.

The helmets are £54.99 (rrp £59.99) for the smaller Nipper range and £64.99 (rrp £69.99) for the larger Meta range, which go up to a size suitable for a large adult head. The three colours are blue, orange and pink. We are able to take payment by card.
