COVID-19 policy

We continue to run our courses paying close attention to the latest government guidelines and restrictions relating to coronavirus (COVID-19) .

The health and safety of the children attending the course has always been our priority and we will always run our courses accordingly.

Here we outline the measures we have put in place to address the issues surrounding  COVID-19.

Some of these measures relate to the general setup at the course venues and how the instructor will conduct the courses. Others relate to things we require from you as parents and carers.

Please read this document carefully and fully, for the health and safety of the children attending the course, their parents and carers, our instructors and also the wider community.

COVID-19 symptoms

If a person experiences COVID-19 symptoms the government advice is to self-isolate at home for 10 days from the onset of the symptoms.

The most important of these symptoms are:

  • a new continuous cough;
  • a high temperature; or
  • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell.

You can find more details about self-isolation under these circumstances on the government website here…

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection#ending-self-isolation-and-household-isolation

If your child is unable to attend their booked course because of self-isolation in your household, please contact us as soon as possible so we can rearrange the booking.

Our courses generally book up fully so we would really appreciate as much notice as you can provide if you are unable to make use of your booking.

If your instructor is unable to teach the course because they have to self-isolate, we will do our best to rearrange your booking to a later course. If this isn’t possible we will refund you in full.

Face coverings

All adults are to wear masks indoors in accordance with government policy.

The Pedal Project instructor will wear a face covering at the beginning of each session and at the end of each session, when the other parents and carers are present. This will either be in the form of a visor covering their face, or a mask covering their mouth and nose.

The parents and carers do not stay for the sessions. Once the parents and carers have left, the Pedal Project instructor will not wear a face covering, as per government advice on teachers and educational settings...

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools

If there are two instructors at a lessons, they will remain at least 1m apart at all times.

It is not expected nor recommended that the children wear face coverings, however if you would like your child to wear a face covering please make sure you bring one for them as these will not be provided.

Our venues

All our courses take place in large halls measuring at least 10m by 15m.

There are easily accessible toilets at each of the venues. These are thoroughly cleaned at the end of each day.

All children are of course welcome to use the toilets whenever needed, as well as the parents and carers. However, please do check before leaving home whether your child needs to use the toilet.

Social distancing

If possible please arrange for just one adult to bring your child to the start of each lesson and to pick them up at the end of each lesson. If possible please do not bring siblings along who are not booked on to the course.

The parents and carers should practise social distancing at the beginning and at the end of the sessions for dropping off and picking up the children.

Class sizes

Pedal Project class sizes are of no more than 8 children. Government guidelines state that when seeing friends and family you do not live with you should meet in groups of 6 or less. However there are exceptions when groups can be larger than 6 people. These include:

  • (item 2) Registered childcare, education or training
  • (item 3) Supervised activities provided for children, including wraparound care, youth groups and activities, and children's playgroups
  • (item 11) Exercise classes, organised outdoor sport or licenced outdoor physical activity, and supervised sporting activity (indoors or outdoors) for under-18s

Bikes

All the children learn to cycle on bikes provided by Pedal Project. We have made some adaptations to our bikes to facilitate the learning process. The children may not learn on their own bikes.

However we suggest that you arrange to bring your child’s own bike to the third and final session of the course. If they are pedalling on their own by then, they can get a chance to ride their own bikes. It is fine if you are not able to bring their own bike as the Pedal Project bikes will be available.

At the end of each session the instructor will disinfect all the bikes that have been used in that lesson, cleaning the handlebars as well as the saddle. (Children often put their hand on the saddle as they are getting on and off the bike.)

Washing hands

All children will be required to wash their hands thoroughly immediately before each of their lessons. We encourage you to have them wash their hands at the end of their lessons as well.

The instructor will wash their hands thoroughly in each break between lessons during the day.

There will also be hand sanitiser available in the hall where the lessons take place.

Timekeeping

Please make sure that your child is on time for the start of each lesson but please do not come into the venue more than 5 minutes before the lesson is due to begin, as this could cause unnecessary crowding with those from the preceding class.

Thank you for reading to the end! If you have any questions about any of this, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing info@pedalproject.co.uk.

We look forward to seeing your child at a Pedal Project course soon.
